Rockabilly has its roots in the rockabilly music scene of the 1940’s and 1950’s. The music combined hillbilly and rock n roll music with swing to create a new sound and rockabilly clothing and styles also did this. They consisted of quiff hair cuts and smart shirts with girls wearing everything from 50s clothing like flowing dresses to turn up denim jeans and shirts. Rockabilly music enjoyed resurgence in the early 80’s along with the rise of punk and new wave music. Rockabilly has remained popular merging with a number of cultures such as music, tattoos and clothing styles but rockabilly clothes have remained popular, the 50s clothing style has just evolved.

Men’s rockabilly retro clothing styles typically consist of 50’s clothing like shirts, raised heel brothel creeper shoes, turned up jeans, bowling shirts and suits. Most men’s rockabilly clothing styles often feature pin up girls, hotrods, motorbike logos, guitars and swallows in a tattoo style as well as animal and checkerboard prints.

When it comes to Women’s rockabilly clothes the range is far wider with everything from sailor dresses, halter neck tops, vests, cardigans and jeans. All of which feature rockabilly styles such as polka dots, cherries, dice and other tattoo based designs. Women also wear 1950’s vintage underwear such as seamed nylon stockings, bullet bras and frilly knickers. When it comes to footwear rockabilly girls wear everything from flat heeled trainers and brothel creepers to high heels and wedges.

Rockabilly accessories consist of big pewter belt buckles and sew on patches featuring tattoo designs and other rockabilly styles. Men tend to have leather wallets with chains that hook on to the belt where as women have clutch purses and small wrist hand bags. Nearly all rockabilly accessories come with tattoos designs, checkerboard and animal prints and often include leather.
