You might experience problems cleaning the mattress as the liquid would have entered the bed. Ideally, one should ensure that the bed is washed or dry washed properly and sanitation maintained. While it is nice to have these waterproof mattress pads, take note that there is a trade-off. These mattress pads can be warm as air is not circulated. It is important that the mattress has small air holes which enable air to flow in when a person is resting. A waterproof mattress prevents the air for entering inside as the holes get packed completely.
Some companies reduce this problem by having deeper ridges in the mattress to allow air to pass thru the gaps.
Even with this trade-off, these mattress pads are still very much in demand in the market today.
